My MABH Hair Growth Challenge Announcement : Current Hair Length and Photos

Happy Saturday everyone!

Today I am announcing my hair growth challenge on MABH! I am glad about the response I received and I can’t express how happy I am to take part in it! I can see things getting more organized in coming days. Along with me, few other bloggers are taking part in this challenge and I thank them very much for that! I shall be sharing everything about this here and on our official Facebook page from today. Stay tuned!

Before reading more about my journey, go through the following pages!

My Journey till now!

my hair growth year by year

Length Check!

The main concept of this challenge is to ‘grow out long hair’ and so I am starting with the length check. I rarely measure my hair though I usually check where it reaches. In the last two years, my hair has got down to waist and then reached the tail bone length.. and now finally, classic! You can read a lot more about it on my one year hair growth journey. This is the first time I am measuring my hair properly and it is 113 cm long! I am aiming for knee-length this time.

My Hair Type:

I have a fine straight black hair with slight waves. My hair is manageable and it gets dry very rarely, especially in monsoons when the humidity is high. I’ve a long hair and hence it gets tangled easily if I don’t braid it but you can find me in a free hair style most of the time! I hate getting it tied for unknown reasons.

Current Hair Issues:

Thankfully, I don’t experience severe hair fall or breakage as I only use natural products on my hair and follow a proper diet. (I use MABH hair oil that I make at home) My hair tends to shed a bit more in monsoons and whenever I get sick. From what I noticed and experienced, few things that increases my shed are – exposure to sunlight, chlorinated water, stress, sleeplessness and excessive body heat. Sometimes, combing a lot or leaving my hair tangled overnight also leads to slight ‘more than normal’ hair breakage.

Right now, Chennai’s weather is acting SO much weird. The combination of bad weather and my sinus issues really takes a toll on my hair. I’ve not oiled my hair properly in the last few weeks. My hair is still healthy but not smooth as it used to be. For now, washing my hair is a nightmare! I get headache whenever I wash my hair. Hence, my doctor advised me to limit hair wash to once a week, only in noon. I cannot handle unwashed hair after 3-4 days hence I am making it ‘twice’.

How I Grow Out Longer Hair?

I follow 2 rules when it comes to growing out long hair!

  • Reduce hair fall/shed/breakage as much as possible.
  • Increase your hair growth rate by following good routine and diet.

The first thing you should do is to minimize the shed because however your hair grows faster, there is no use if it sheds at an alarming rate. If the shed dominates the growth rate, you lose the volume of your hair. You CANNOT stop hair shedding as it is a normal process and I shed about 50-100 hair strands a day. Something more than 150 is unusual, I guess. You can minimize the shed by cutting down the things causing it. Let’s see what I do to keep the shed on check!

Changes I am going to make to minimize shed!

When I minimize shed, it means I am letting my hair to grow longer and thicker without obstacles. As already mentioned, I am summing up the following things that causes excessive shed for me. And listing out how I am going to overcome them in this challenge.

Exposure to Sunlight : I am not going to expose my hair or scalp directly to the harsh sunlight anymore; even for a minute! Whenever I step out in noon sun, I am covering my hair with a scarf hereafter. It may sound simple but I hope it will reduce the excessive shed I experience right after the sun exposure. You never know why your hair is falling out a lot, unless you notice the causes sharply.

Chlorinated Water : It is not easy for me to avoid salted/chlorinated water since I live in a coastal area. Though chlorinated water itself doesn’t cause hair fall, it dries out the hair & scalp encouraging breakage and dandruff – that leads to hair fall. I’ll be using drinking water to cleanse my hair and scalp for the last rinse to avoid buildups. I hope my hair will stay healthier this way.

Stress : I can’t help with this due to a tight work schedule. My exams are nearing and hence the stress levels already hiked up. I am thinking to divert my mind in hobbies like cooking, reading my subjects and doing random things to reduce my stress. When I am happy, my hair and skin feels healthy. I’ve literally experienced this a million times!

Sleeplessness : I found this out after checking how my shed reduced to half after I broke my mobile! lol. My phone keeps me stay awake all the night and it really affects my overall health and hair growth. Mind you, your hair gets longer and falls less only if you are healthy from inside. Though I am getting a new mobile now, I am switching it off before 10 PM in coming days!

Excessive body heat : The two signs that indicate me about my body heat are – sudden ‘no reason’ breakouts on face and more hair shedding. To control this, I’ve been taking B complex pills and tender coconut now and then. I am making it more regular from now, the month I start this challenge. I am going to take a B complex pill every night after my dinner to balance the body heat. It helps a lot with hair loss. You’ve to try to believe it!

Diet for Hair Growth:

Protein contributes a lot when it comes to hair growth. You know how I love taking eggs, chicken and other sources of protein everyday to maintain my long hair. The change definitely makes your hair thicker and longer, when you follow it rightly. I am going to include eggs, chicken or chickpeas to my everyday diet. I already do eat eggs a lot but I am making it more regular this time. No cheats even for a single day. I’ll also be taking Biotin pills along with B complex to maintain the health of my hair. The one I use is H-Vit biotin.

See what I had for my dinner last night! – Scrambled Egg Curry.

P.S: I am in no way recommending you to take supplements for hair growth. It is ONLY good if you consult your physician for this. Do not start taking any pills without proper prescription.

Other than this, I shall also be religiously following the oiling routine (twice a week) with the MABH Fast Growth Hair Oil to promote my hair growth. Read my post on how to oil your hair. I will also be getting a hair spa done at home every week! (I already shared the rose hair spa tutorial on the blog). Let me share with you a complete regime at the end of the second month of this challenge – after testing out what works and what doesn’t.

For now, I’ll be following the things I mentioned and I’ll be doing an update after month 1, i.e after 30 days approx from now. I shall also be sharing more about my oiling routine and changes in diet on my next post. Wish me good luck!

Note : If you are a blogger who wants to take part in this challenge, go through this post and get back to me with your details! Non bloggers can also participate with a slightly altered schedule. Do keep in touch. Have a great day!
